We are all aware how babies’ brains are supposed to be like sponges. The development of the brain during the first year is absolutely incredible, and giving it the right stimulation during this time can make a huge difference to not just how much it develops but also exactly HOW it develops.

That can sound scary, and many people find themselves reading so much conflicting advice on how best to parent when a child is so young that it starts to all become extremely confusing. However much of it is common sense, and there are simply a few small things you can ensure you do to help aid them as much as possible.

Try to avoid putting them in front of the television. Before the age of two, it is recommended that children are exposed to no TV whatsoever as it creates the wrong stimulation for their brain. Instead, more traditional acts such as reading to your child are great to help them develop the important areas of the brain.

In fact time spent with one or both of the parents is the most important way to help the growth of a baby’s brain. Whether that is time spent simply being held and cuddled or time spent playing simple games, it all helps. Music is also a great stimulant, so try singing to your child. A children’s music box is also a great addition to your house at this time. Music is soothing but also helps develop areas of the brain that are harder to stimulate, meaning a children’s music box is going to not just be superficially beneficial, but much more intrinsically too.

Items that will entrance them are also great for cognitive skills. Things such as snow globes can have a surprising effect on rational thinking and understanding. And at the same time snow globes can simply be an attractive addition to the household.

Simply try to be there for them and give them as much stimulation as you can. However, your love will be one of the best ways to help them grow in every possible way.
