Do We Really Need Valentine’s Day?

What is Valentine’s Day? It’s a day where we are supposed to show love to those closest to us and let them know exactly how much we care. But, wait a minute, aren’t we supposed to do that everyday? And doesn’t being told we have to make a romantic, spontaneous gesture somewhat detract from the whole point of making a romantic, spontaneous gesture?

Well, in many ways Valentine’s Day is indeed nothing more than a commercialised creation, and as such is much more about spending money than showing love. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t use it to your advantage. So often we use Valentine’s Day to resort to simple clichéd gifts or gestures which seem like a nice idea at the time but are instantly forgotten.

Instead of using it as a day to show how much you love someone, why not spend the other 364 days of the year doing that (a spontaneous, romantic gesture will be much more appreciated on just a random day) and use Valentine’s Day to be all about indulgence. Do things together you love doing, pamper each other and spoil each other so you feel like you aren’t being spoilsports, but also that you are not using it as a way to avoid spending money or showing love the rest of the year.

For men it is easy - pampering and indulging a woman can be very easily done - but for women, buying gifts for men on Valentine’s Day can be much harder. Just remember that it isn’t about getting them something that will necessarily last forever, but an indulgence, so instead of the fallback of books or music why not look at luxury gifts for men. Luxury gifts for men come in all shapes and sizes and finding one that suits your loved one should be easy if you know them well.

So when it comes to buying gifts for men on Valentine’s Day, don’t be practical. Be flamboyant.
